Nintendo eShop Selects – June 2022
Blimey, it’s July already? June flew by, but looking back at the month and all of those Switch games, we think we have an answer as to why things went by so quickly — it was a darn good month for video games, wasn’t it? How will we ever pick the best of the best? Well, we’ve tried to!
Like always, we’re focusing on download-only games that we’ve reviewed, and that DLC and expansions — like Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak and Cuphead – The Delicious Last Course — aren’t included. But even with those ground rules laid down, it was still a corker of a month on the eShop.
Let’s get June 2022’s honourable mentions out of the way first, then check out the best (and our favourite) Switch eShop games of last month!
Honourable Mentions:
This month was so good that we’ve only included games scoring 8/10 or above. Even though they didn’t quite get into the top three, they’re absolutely worth a shout here:
Publisher: Devolver Digital / Developer: Nerial
There are tons of card games on the Switch (and elsewhere) right now, but what makes Card Shark stand out from the rest is that it’s not really about playing with the cards, and it’s this twist that meant it barely squeaked into our number three spot.
It’s a deliciously devious puzzler that has you shuffling decks of cards, pouring drinks, and trying to keep your players happy while trying to help a noble cheat his way through the game. It’s a fickle deck to play with as you’re always under pressure. But it’s also utterly hilarious and always keeps you on your toes.

Publisher: Valve Corporation / Developer: Valve
This iconic duo has been long awaiting the Switch port treatment. Announced in February and shadow-dropping during June’s Nintendo Direct Mini, Valve’s incredible puzzle games proved to be right at home on Nintendo’s little console.
Who’s surprised that this placed so highly? Not us. Portal and Portal 2 have some of the best puzzles and funniest writing in gaming today, and both games still feel unique years later. And the Switch port has hardly any graphical hitches, running at a smooth 60fps both in handheld and docked modes. This is the way to play both of these games, we think.
Need more convincing? Our 9/10 review should do the trick.
Publisher: Dotemu / Developer: Tribute Games
In a stacked month for new releases, Dotemu and Tribute Games’ loving celebration of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade games reigns supreme. It’s hard to deny it the top spot, and it absolutely throttled the competition within Nintendo Life Towers.
Shredder’s Revenge is more than just a pizza slice of ’80s and ’90s beat-’em-up nostalgia — it’s a whole pizza’s worth. Chock a block with references to the show, the comics, and the games. The game’s 16 stages are filled with enemies, buzzing with Tee Lopes’ fantastic music, and full of homages to other classic fighting games. And with six-player co-op and online or local play, you’ll lose hours perfecting combos and getting into chaotic brawls. It’s the most delicious pizza we could ever wish for.

< Nintendo Life eShop Selects – May 2022
How we decide our eShop Selects top three: As we reach the end of every month, the Nintendo Life staff vote on their favourite titles from a list of games selected by the editorial team. To qualify for this list, these games must have been released as a digital-only Nintendo Switch eShop title in that particular month, and must have been reviewed on Nintendo Life; we select the qualifying games based on their review scores.
Staff are then asked to vote for three games that they think deserve to sit right at the very top of that list; first choice gets 3 points, second choice gets 2 points, and third choice gets 1 point. These votes are then tallied to create a top three list, with the overall winner taking that month’s top prize.
