What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 16th)

Well, its felt like quite a hectic week here at Nintendo Life! The biggest news, of course, was the confirmation that Bayonetta 3 will finally be launching in October this year, along with the delightful surprise of a physical edition of the first game. To top it off, Platinum Games confirmed that you can toggle the game’s naughtier bits on and off in the ‘Naive Angel Mode’, which is kind of an awesome name!

Elsewhere, the Sega Genesis Mini 2 was confirmed for North America, and Nintendo announced that it has acquired the visual production company ‘Dynamo Pictures’, with a view to enhance its video output for Nintendo IP. Finally, Kate has put together a wonderful list of books, films, and TV that pair perfectly with some of your favourite games; it’s well worth checking out!

Now it’s time to chill out and discuss our weekend gaming plans. A few members of the Nintendo Life team have done just that below, so feel free to give our entries a read and then join in with your own via our comment section. Enjoy!

So this weekend, I’ve decided it’s about time I sit down and play through The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Besides Breath of the Wild, it’s been yonks since I last played any of the 3D Zelda titles, so I’m a bit scared to go in and find that it’s lost some of its lustre, but excited to dive back into Hyrule nonetheless.

Elsewhere, with the confirmation that Bayonetta 3 will be launching on October 28th, I’ve of course gone right back to the first game to catch myself up. It’s still one of the greatest hack ‘n’ slash games of all time, without a doubt, and I can’t wait to see where the story goes in the third entry.

I have so many new games I need to catch up on, but I bought Rune Factory 4 Special in the recent sale and I have been absolutely RINSING it. I didn’t think I’d like it, for some reason??? But it’s basically Fantasy Life + Harvest Moon, which is two things I ADORE. The bachelors aren’t very interesting, but they never are. Sigh.

Also there’s so much more story than a Harvest Moon, or even a Stardew Valley. I’m only halfway through Year One and it feels like I’ve almost finished the game, just because so much has happened!!

I’m also still working my way through Hollow Knight, but I won’t say too much here because I need to save it for the Backlog Club essay!

It’s been a long few weeks and beyond polishing off Portal in a couple of evenings, making a little progress in Cuphead, and playing Pokémon Puzzle League for a few minutes to grab some screens, I haven’t played a huge amount of games. I did, however, buy a few – Umurangi Generation, and Spelunkys 1 and 2, of which I’ve spent only half an hour with Spelunky so far.

So, this weekend I intend to dip my toe into into the lot of them. Time permitting, I’d also love to tinker with the Everdrive 64 that’s been sitting proudly, provocatively on my desk for a few weeks now. It’s a beautiful thing and I’m dying to crack out the N64 and see what it can do.

This weekend I have two games to finish: Mother 3 and Attack of the Friday Monsters. I’d been playing Witcher 3 prior to that the last MANY couples of weekends, but I can now say that I finally finished the game! Mother 3 has been great so far, such a great story, and I’m 17 hours in so far. Attack of the Friday Monsters is also really good, and it’s also really short, which is super appreciated after The Witcher 3!

I have put off playing the epilogue in Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition for as long as I could, time to dive in before the third installment arrives. I only recently made enough microSD space to install Neon White and I’m loving it so far. Will continue my Dimitri campaign in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes and grinding the rather excellent career mode on Wreckfest.

Game of the week is a bunch of them actually: Capcom Fighting Collection. Nostalgia is a powerful thing, playing these games is like meeting old friends… and more of them are coming around next week!
