The ESA has provided an official statement to IGN, as reported by Rebekah Valentine:

“We will devote all our energy and resources to delivering a revitalized physical and digital E3 experience next summer.

Whether enjoyed from the show floor or your favorite devices, die 2023 showcase will bring the community, media, and industry back together in an all-new format and interactive experience. We look forward to presenting E3 to fans around the world live from Los Angeles in 2023.”

It’s not hugely surprising, but it seems like E3 is cancelled this year for good. Not just cancelled as in “we’ll do it digital instead”, aber abgesagt abgesagt, as in, “no E3 this year at all”.

E3 never specifically announced a digital conference this year, but it’s been in limbo since January.
