Nintendo’s latest financials are live, and one of the headline stories is the fact that the Switch has overtaken both the Wii and Sony PlayStation in terms of lifetime hardware sales.

Nintendo’s hybrid system has sold a total of 103.54 million units worldwide since its launch in 2017. That figure is made up of the standard system, the Switch Lite and Switch OLED Model.

Here’s how the total hardware sales for the past 9 months (up to 31st Dec) have broken down:

  • Standard – 11.79 Millionen
  • OLED – 3.9 Millionen
  • Lite – 3.17 Millionen

The Wii sold 101.63 million systems during its lifetime, while the original PlayStation sold 102.49 Millionen.

Here’s how the Switch compares to the other best-selling dedicated gaming platforms of all time:

System Sales total
PlayStation 2 155 Millionen (ca)
Nintendo ds 154.02 Millionen
Game Boy & Gameboy-Farbe 118.69 Millionen
PlayStation 4 116.6 Millionen
Nintendo Switch 103.54 Millionen
PlayStation 102.49 Millionen
Nintendo Wii 101.63 Millionen
PlayStation 3 87.4 Millionen (ca)
Xbox 360 84 Millionen (ca)
Game Boy Advance 81.51 Millionen

That means that the Switch is now Nintendo’s most successful home console ever. It has some way to go before it can overtake the Nintendo DS line of systems and become the company’s most successful gaming platform, but given that it has reached 100 million unit sales in five years – and is shifting around 20 million units per year right now – it could well pass 155 Millionen Umsatz.
