Willkürlich: A No More Heroes-Film unter der Regie von James Gunn? Das ist die Wahl von Suda51
We think Grasshopper Manufacture’s No More Heroes would make for a pretty splendid movie. Something ultra-violent, ultra-goofy — the games are already bursting with movie and video game references throughout! — so it’d be a riot at the cinema.
And it seems like the series creator and head of Grasshopper Goichi Suda — known to many as Suda51 — thinks so too! The developer sat down with Shacknews last week to talk about his involvement with Summer Game Fest’s Devolver Digital Showcase, NetEase, and his studio. And the topic of a dream No More Heroes movie came about.
Suda51 revealed in this chat with Shacknews his top picks for who he’d like to play Travis Touchdown, die Hauptfigur, and who he’d like to direct the film.
[For Travis Touchdown,] I’d probably go with Ryan Gosling… And as director, I’d probably go with James Gunn. Conversely, if we were going to go with a Japanese director, then I’d want to go with Takashi Miike.
Die Wächter der Galaxie und The Suicide Squad director shouldn’t be too surprising of a choice. James Gunn has worked with Suda51 before on the over-the-top kitsch hack-and-slash Lollipop Chainsaw, and aside from his Marvel and DC Universe films, he’s also known for horror-comedy flicks such as Slither. Basically, Gunn has the comedy, the writing, and the violence down, so we’re in.
Japanese director Takashi Miike is also a pretty excellent choice in our eyes. Miike has shown his skill with directing a range of different genres, but his violent, surreal films are what stand out to us — Audition, Ichi the Killer, 13 Assassins, und Gozu are some of his best.
For Touchdown, Ryan Gosling might be a bit more of a surprise to some. But if anyone has seen him in The Big Short oder The Nice Guys, you’ll know he’s capable of being funny. And his turns in Bladerunner 2049, The Place Beyond the Pines, und Drive show he’s also got the chops for a bit of action. That last one in particular (that jacket, nachdem alle) sells us alone. He just needs a bit more humour in there!
Nun, we’re on board. When’s the film coming out? In Wirklichkeit, it’s probably a pipe dream at this point, but if it ever does happen, we think Suda51 has some excellent picks in mind.
