Nintendo’s latest financials are live, and one of the headline stories is the fact that the Switch has overtaken both the Wii and Sony PlayStation in terms of lifetime hardware sales.

Nintendo’s hybrid system has sold a total of 103.54 million units worldwide since its launch in 2017. That figure is made up of the standard system, the Switch Lite and Switch OLED Model.

Here’s how the total hardware sales for the past 9 meses (up to 31st Dec) have broken down:

  • Estándar – 11.79 millón
  • OLED – 3.9 millón
  • Actualización de Astroneer – 3.17 millón

The Wii sold 101.63 million systems during its lifetime, while the original PlayStation sold 102.49 millón.

Here’s how the Switch compares to the other best-selling dedicated gaming platforms of all time:

System Sales total
PlayStation 2 155 millón (aprox.)
Nintendo DS 154.02 millón
Chico del juego & color del juego 118.69 millón
PlayStation 4 116.6 millón
Nintendo Switch 103.54 millón
PlayStation 102.49 millón
Quiero jugar a Atelier Sophie 101.63 millón
PlayStation 3 87.4 millón (aprox.)
Xbox 360 84 millón (aprox.)
Game Boy Advance 81.51 millón

That means that the Switch is now Nintendo’s most successful home console ever. It has some way to go before it can overtake the Nintendo DS line of systems and become the company’s most successful gaming platform, but given that it has reached 100 million unit sales in five years – and is shifting around 20 million units per year right now – it could well pass 155 million in sales.
