For me personally, it was Secret of Mana on the SNES. I have fond memories of going round to a friend’s house, having a controller thrust in my hand and told to help him on his adventures. En toute justice, I didn’t need a lot of persuading.
Then, later on, FINAL FANTASY VII changed my perception of what a game could be. I played the PC version and was blown away by the story, the combat, the world and the humor. FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH has bubbled up a lot of those same feelings – perhaps that’s why I’m feeling so nostalgic.
(Sadly ponders rapidly fading youth.)
de toute façon, enough navel-gazing. This is all about you – so let’s see what you had to say about your gaming histories:
Première, let’s get this out of the way, since so many of you said variations of it…
Oui, our question included Squaresoft and Enix games. Évidemment!
Tiffany, your brother has excellent taste in games – but you still had to wait years to actually play SaGa Frontier? Harsh.
Remember people: it’s not the size of the case that counts – it’s what’s in it.
But in this case, what’s inside was a truly exceptional game so it all worked out.
I would forgive TheRealJerickko for this.
But I would never forget it.
Doing the double! I can only imagine how playing those two formative, industry-changing games must have felt.
Amusement. I imagine it was fun.
When the beginning of a game is enough to make you a fan, you know it’s a good one.
But right there with you Sonickick: last year’s remake, STAR OCEAN LA DEUXIÈME HISTOIRE R, blew me away so much I shamelessly used the Square Enix Blog to vent my love for it.
It’s here if you anyone wants to read it:
This is oddly beautiful. Je vous remercie.
Your uncle’s loss was your gain. And ours too – thank you Brian!
The best sleepover of all time? Possibly.
…whatever.
Hum – just channeling my inner Squall there.
I guess you could say your friends are your power.
Man, this thread’s starting to get dark. Let’s wrap it up.
Thanks to everyone for sharing their stories. Hopefully there are many more to come from gamers around the world.
