Why isn’t Titanfall more popular, and what does Respawn’s future hold?
Thoughts on the most recent update, plus a chat with community manager Abbie Heppe.
I fired up Titanfall again for the first time in a month or two this weekend, lured back to the frontline by the air-raid siren wail of a gigantic free update. It left me feeling rather mixed. D'un côté, the game’s various balances of power – between Titan and Pilot, human and AI, vertical and horizontal – still feel fresh, invigorating, like contributions to knowledge rather than the skilled rehashings of PvP methodologies offered by, dire, Destiny. Titanfall might not be the prettiest shooter on the market right now, but it’s undeniably the most original and thrilling.
