Illumination Website Updates Super Mario Movie Release Date To Holiday 2023
Following a rumour earlier this week about the Mario movie’s official title, it seems there have been a few more developments.
As spotted by GoNintendo, the Illumination Studios Paris website has actually made some adjustments since Monday. Firstly the name has now been changed to Super Mario Bros. Animated Film – suggesting it’s still a working title. And in addition to this, the same page says the film will be arriving “in theatres holiday 2023”.
WAIT, WHAT?
Yes, that’s right folks, the new date written down is seemingly for the end of next year. What makes it even more confusing is the fact the poster next to it still has the old release date of “holiday 2022”. Hopefully, “holiday 2023” is just a mistake.
The last official announcement earlier this year was passed on by Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, who at the time said the film would be released in April 2023:
“This is Miyamoto. After consulting with Chris-san, my partner at Illumination on the Super Mario Bros. film, we decided to move the global release to Spring 2023–April 28 in Japan and April 7 in North America. My deepest apologies but I promise it will be well worth the wait.”
If we hear any updates, we’ll let you know.
