Link to the Past Novel

The Legend of Zelda franchise has seen its fair share of adaptations over the years. One of the most recognisable (and one of few that is still in print to this day) is the manga adaptation of The Legend of Zelda: Un collegamento al passato.

In lesser-known circles, the game also happened to receive a novelisation in Japan by author Katsuyuki Ozaki. It was part of the Futabasha Fantasy Novel Series and took some liberties with some of the franchise’s more well known aspects. You can check out the full novel over on Archivio internet, but keep in mind that the majority of the book is in Japanese text.

As reported by Twitter account and original uploader @HistoryofHyrule via the website Storia di Hyrule, the novel had a very different name for Link. Are you ready for it..?

Paul.

Sì, see for yourself if you don’t believe us.

It doesn’t quite have the same ring to it as ‘Link’, lo fa? The Hero of Hyrule, Paul…” Sì, no. We’re not too sure why the author went with this name in particular, but we’re just going to assume it sounded the most appealing.

Tuttavia, we love seeing little nuggets of history like this, and we’ll be keeping a close eye on what else crops up via the History of Hyrule website.
