Netflix’s Witcher Season 2 Trailer Has War, Magic, Yennefer, Ciri, And An Evil House

Spoilers for Season 2 and Season 1 of The Witcher!

Fans of Final Fantasy VII will be extremely excited to hear that the first trailer for The Witcher season two on Netflix stars an evil cabin with legs, just like that one bit in FF7 where Cloud has to fight a house. It’s a great day for people who enjoy punching buildings!

Evil House

Of course, some of you may think we’re burying the lede a little bit, because the trailer also confirms the return of Geralt’s on-off beau, Yennefer, his sort-of-daughter, Ciri, and everyone’s favourite chaotic bard, Jaskier, who appears to have fallen on hard times since he parted ways with Geralt. Sadly, it looks like poor Yennefer’s suffering and Ciri’s wild wandering aren’t over, as the trailer shows them, you know, suffering and wandering.

The final episode of season one saw everything going quite wrong for poor Geralt. Yennefer has not only abandoned him but disappeared altogether, after burning the Nilfgaardian invading forces to a crisp; Jaskier left in a huff after Geralt snapped at him; Triss looked like she was about to die; but in good news, at least Geralt’s found Ciri. Who wants to place bets on how long it takes for them to get separated again?

Yennefer

We’ve already had a “first look” of the new season, which is all about Geralt chatting to a very nice (and very cursed) boar-man, Nivellen, whose story is very similar to Beast from Beauty and the Beast:

Netflix’s foray into video games is going quite well for them so far. The media giant recently acquired their first game development studio, Night School (Oxenfree, Afterparty), and they’re rumoured to be working on a live-action Pokémon show, too.

As for The Witcher, it’s proved successful enough that season three has already been greenlit, AND it’s getting a prequel, AND CD Projekt Red — the developers of the game — teamed up with Netflix for this year’s WitcherCon.

Hopefully season two has a bit more momentum than the first season, which was all about getting to know the characters. You’ll be able to watch the new episodes from December 17th on Netflix.
