OBS Studio 28.1 Released with Support for NVENC AV1 Accelerated Encoding on Ada GPUs


Popular video streaming software suite OBS Studio, in its latest version 28.1 release, adds hardware-accelerated AV1 encoding support for NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40-series “Ada” GPUs. This takes advantage of the updated NVENC hardware media encoders “Ada” comes with, which has fixed-function hardware to encode AV1 video, a royalty-free format that offers comparable quality and bitrates to HEVC. There are a handful limitations, besides the fact that this only works with the RTX 40-series. To begin with, only the NV12 (OBS default) and P010 color formats are supported.
