Pokémon Brilliant Stars Announced As The Series’ Latest Trading Card Expansion

Pokémon Brilliant Stars

The latest expansion of the Pokémon Trading Card Game has been revealed, featuring a brand new set of cards to collect as well as a whole new game mechanic.

The expansion will be called ‘Brilliant Stars’ and will launch in the west on 25th February 2022. The set will contain 172 base cards as well as some hidden secret rares, including 20 Pokémon V and 15 full-art Pokémon V cards.

The star of the show, ahem, is the new VSTAR mechanic. As seen on the expansion’s booster packs, Charizard, Arceus, Shaymin and Whimsicott will each receive a brand new VSTAR card, all of which will no doubt become highly sought after.

Pokémon VSTAR evolve from Pokémon V. Each Pokémon VSTAR has a potent VSTAR Power, and each player can use only 1 VSTAR Power per game. VSTAR Powers come in two varieties, Abilities and attacks, and both can drastically alter the course of a battle. As you might expect, Pokémon VSTAR also have high HP and high-damage attacks to back up their VSTAR Powers. And like Pokémon V, you’re rewarded with 2 Prize cards when they’re Knocked Out.
