Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Today sees the arrival of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge across multiple platforms including the Switch.

In case you missed the coverage in the lead up to its release, this is a classic-inspired brawler starring not only the turtles but plenty of other familiar faces. There’s also multiplayer for up to six players. If you’re still not sold, read on to see the round up of the reviews so far.

First off, we’ll spotlight our own briefly. We gave the game an “excellent” 9 out of 10 stars:

Right, with that out of the way, here are some thoughts from elsewhere – kicking off with IGN, who gave this new release 8 out of 10:

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is exactly what it looks like: A lovingly crafted reimagining of the TMNT arcade beat-em-ups from one of the best beat-em-up developers in the business today.”

Nintendo World Report gave the turtle’s latest game 9 out of 10:

“In short, if you’re a TMNT fan or love beat-’em-ups, you’ll surely dig the colorful and upbeat Shredder’s Revenge, especially if you can find a few other ninjas to kick back with.”

GamingBible was just as taken with it, awarding another 9 out of 10 score:

“File Shredder’s Revenge alongside the likes of Streets of Rage 4 and River City Girls as a contemporary masterpiece of its kind, an exemplary demonstration of how to spruce up a stylistic road well walked already after so many go-straight experiences, and somehow make the journey so much more special than the destination.”

EGM gave it 4 out of 5 stars, but did have a few issues:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge looks to bring back the glory days of Konami’s side-scrolling arcade beat ’em ups and home hits based on everyone’s favorite young green ninjas. In its visuals and gameplay, Dotemu and Tribute Games have not only matched those retro classics that they’re paying homage to here, but perhaps even surpassed them. Sadly, this trip through time is somewhat marred by inconsistent audio and an Arcade mode that feels more like a slog than a thrill.”

And last but not least, GoNintendo – another outlet that absolutely loved it:

“TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is the genuine article, and once again proves how Dotemu has an incredible respect for/understanding of classic beat’em-ups. Now we know that Tribute Games is capable of just the same, and these two teaming up has resulted in not just one of the best TMNT games ever, but one of the best beat’em-ups in years.”
