Video: The Best RPG Ever Made Still Isn’t On Switch

Our very own Zion Grassl recently had the privilege of finishing Chrono Trigger for the very first time, and even 26 years after release he’s utterly blown away. To celebrate this accomplishment Zion, Jon and special guest Kevin Kenson decided to sit down and praise the game for over an hour. And trust us, there’s a lot more we could have said.

However speaking the good word of this classic is about all we can do as there are very few ways for gamers to play this pivotal RPG for themselves. In 26 years there have only ever been 4 releases; Super Nintendo (which skipped Europe), PlayStation (also skipped Europe), Nintendo DS & the initially controversial but largely remedied Steam release. If you primarily play on console, there’s a high chance you’ve never had the opportunity to buy Chrono Trigger and that should frankly be a crime.

Switch is home to many legacy RPGs whether it be Final Fantasy VII, the Dragon Quest trilogy and even newer favourites like Ni No Kuni, but what’s arguably the greatest game of the 16-bit era remains stranded on Steam – tarnished by its launch reputation. Here’s hoping rumours of a Chrono Cross remaster come to fruition at the very least.
